Migrating a DFS-R Deployment to Azure File Sync
Learn, step-by-step, how to deploy Azure File Sync and how to migrate to it from an existing DFS-R environment.
In this course, you will learn how to migrate an organization from an existing DFS-R solution to Azure File Sync.
Azure File Sync is a service that allows you to cache a number of Azure file shares on an on-premises Windows Server or cloud VM.
Featuring numerous detailed hands-on demonstrations, this course will teach you how to deploy deploy Azure File Sync and then how to migrate to it from DFS-R.
We'll first walk through the preparation for Azure File Sync, before beginning the Azure File Sync deployment. After completing the deployment, we'll perform the migration to Azure File Sync from DFS-R. We'll wrap up by confirming functionality and retiring DFS-R.
By the time you finish this course, you’ll have an understanding of what’s involved in a migration from DFS-R to Azure File Sync.
Students completing this course will learn how to prepare for an Azure File Sync deployment, how to deploy Azure File Sync, and how to migrate to Azure File Sync from an existing DFS-R implementation.
We’ll kick things off with "Preparing for Azure File Sync", where we will complete some prerequisite steps that are necessary to prepare for the deployment of Azure File Sync.
In "Begin the Azure File Sync Deployment", I'll show you how to begin the deployment of Azure File Sync as part of the migration away from DFS-R.
As we move through the course, we’ll dive into "Completing the Azure File Sync Deployment", where I'll walk you through the completion of the Azure File Sync deployment for a fictional organization, called Berks Bikes.
We’ll then move into "Confirming Functionality and Retiring DFS-R", where we’ll ensure things are working as they should. We'll confirm data is syncing, and that permissions are syncing as well.
We'll close things out by enabling Cloud Tiering, which improves file access times for end users.
